A carbohydrate, or a carb is something that provides energy to the body. A common misconception is that carbs are unhealthy and you should not eat them. Some are good for you and some are bad, but you should still include them in your diet. Carbs are the main source of energy to your body. They provide 4 kcals per gram. If you avoid eating them, and you don't have enough, you will lose body muscle. When the body doesn't have enough carbs, it takes away body muscle and body tissue to gets its energy. Carbohydrates are an essential part of your diet, they should take up 45-65% of your bodys energy intake. Some things have bad carbs, like soda, baked goods, and whitebread. Some things that have good carbs are berries, beans, and lettuce. Also carbs are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. And there are complex carbs, like glycogen, starch, and fiber. These are more healthy and you want to eat more of these. There are also simple carbs like glucose, galactose and fructose. In conclusion carbohydrates are an essential and good part of your diet, they are not bad for you, you should eat them!
