After finishing the second to last chapter of The Pearl, suspense is building. At first the family thought the Pearl would bring happiness and joy to their family but they soon find that the Pearl is a curse. There have been several break-ins, in attempt to steal the Pearl. When Kino try's to sell it, he doesn't get the price he wanted to he continues to keep the Pearl. With his baby getting dying he needs to get rid of the Pearl. This action in the book makes it fun and interesting to read. With action in a book it makes the read engaged in the story. John Steinbeck does a get job, adding suspense and action into The Pearl.
