On August 9, a young black 18 year old, was killed by white police officer. Michael Brown was shot by officer Darren Wilson. People in Ferguson were outraged. The killing started a massive protest. Most of the protest was peaceful, but some smashed car windows, looted stores and threw firebombs. Jay Nixon, sent in the National Guard to prevent the riot from turning violent. The government came in riot gear and shot tear gas at the demonstrators. In some cases the police used rubber bullets and military equipment. The government was very violent, when only a small percentage of the protest was violent. The police officer who shot Michael Brown, shot him six times. More than enough to kill him. Two thirds of the population in Ferguson are black and only 3 out of the 53 police officers are black. Many black citizens felt that the government and police officers were racist against black people. They did not feel that the government and police officials are there to protect them. They do not feel they are looking out for them. They feel that the police target them, just because of the color of their skin. For example, DWB, driving while black. It is believed that when you're black, you get pulled over and get a ticketed for some offense you didn't do. So some blacks believe that the government is racist, and should not be trusted. But this is not true for most of the black population over the world. In conclusions I believe the government uses extensive force and should have handled this protest peacefully.
